  Artist Statement

I love color.  I love shiny things.  I can’t draw or paint, so I express myself with beads and jewelry.

I started making the Babes a few years ago when I first found their delightful heads at a bead show.  I brought a couple home and thought I would make a necklace or something with them.  But the more I looked at them, the more they spoke to me.  So I started experimenting with ways to make bodies and arms and legs.  As I continued to work with them, I liked the fact that the arms and legs moved randomly, and so did the heads.  Some have extra long arms, sometimes they purposely have mismatched hands or shoes.  It just depends on how I feel when I’m making them.  Although they share some common attributes, I never to make two that are exactly alike.  Once I get started they take on personalities and I find myself imagining myself hanging out with them while they’re doing whatever they’re up to.

The first time I walked into Blue Moon Gallery, I was wearing one of my babes, and Carol asked me if she could sell them.  I was delighted to become a part of such a friendly gallery.  My Babes and other jewelry designs are available exclusively at Blue Moon.  In the other part of my life, I’m a musician, playing harp, harpsichord, hurdy gurdy, and various renaissance instruments.  I was pleased to give the first-ever concert at Blue Moon in November of 2009.
